*** I really enjoyed Nancy Farmer’s The House of Scorpion. It was a twist. I really liked the fact of how the main character Matt has such a strong will to survive, no matter what everyone thinks and how everyone treats him. The way that he was treated just makes you want to jump in the book and save him. There were many surprises in the book and I really liked it, although El Patron was a very predictable old man. I also really liked how El Patron had wanted to live for like ever. He had his time and he still wanted to make sure that he was in control of everything. I had a hard time putting the book down.

*** The house of the scorpion was a pretty good book. At first I really did not care for it because it was boring I thought. Around the middle of the book is when I started getting into. The main character is Matt and he is one strong kid. He had gone through many advantages and found ways of escaping. If you like adventures this book is one for you.

I gave the house of the Scorpion a ***. I didn’t like the begging of the story because it was not that interesting. But then after he was stuck in like all of the saw dust I started to get into it. Got a little more interesting with him finding his secret place to hide, and him and Maria getting the real feelings brought out. I would recommend this book to a friend. But you have to be determined because it does take a while to read.

*** The House of the Scorpion was a good book. The main character Matt is a clone of a very powerful drug lord named Matteo Alacran. Matt is a very smart young man but is clueless as to how the world and society works. He is one tough kid and experiences an adventure of a lifetime. Although it was a slow reading book and it took about 40 pages just to get a good story moving, if you’re determined and like adventures you will enjoy this book.

*** The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer was a good book. It did a good job of showing how someone in Matt’s position would think. He was sheltered for so long that everything is new and amazing to him. At the same time the book does a nice job of showing the change in the way he thinks once he realizes he has power and how power can get into someone. The plot was too predictable but the twists it takes are interesting and the descriptions of things remind me of being a kid.

** The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer was an okay book. The story is about a boy named Matt Alacran whom of which was a clone of a very powerful drug lord. The beginning of the story was very slow and it took a lot of time until the action began. The book would be better if the author put more action in the beginning of the book instead of keeping it slow. The action finally begins when Matt decides to run away from his home to seek better opportunities. His old home was apart of an opium processing farms. Matt was influenced by Celia (his mother like figure) and Tam Lin (a friend of his that was a bodyguard to his owner) to run away from the opium farms. Matt ran away because his heart, being the clone to a powerful leader, was to be used to save El Patron (his owner). El Patron was a very vicious ruler of the opium farms; everyone that was under his watch was scared of him and obeyed anything he told them to do.

The House of the Scorpion is about a boy named Matt who grows up not knowing the whole truth in where he was created and why he is here. When he wanders from his home by a pack of children he discovers partly why he was created. He knows that many people don’t like him because of the way he was created and because he’s Matteo Alacran, the biggest drug lord. Matt goes through a lot of craziness to discover the truth. I thought that this was a really good book. It has its slow parts, but most of it kept you wanting more. I recommend it to everyone. I give it ****
