***. I think that Haveli by Suzanne Fisher Staples was a very good book. It is the sequel to the book Shabanu. This book is about a woman named Shabanu who, after forced to marry Rahim is faced with the difficulties of being the youngest of 4 wives, prettiest and most-likely-to-have-a-son wife of Rahim. This is a problem because all of the other wives envy her because if they could make Rahim a son then they would be his new favorite wife and they would be provided for the rest of their lives nicely. She ends up going away to help her friend with a problem and hits a few road bumps in the way to make this book an exciting but also sad book. I really liked this book because I think that it had a lot of events in it that people now in America would never think of actually happen. Although this is not a true story, all of the thought that came from if happen in one form or another. I would say that I liked the first book Shabanu better because I think that it was written a little better in the since that it was through a little girl and not a woman who has been trained to act a certain way for a couple years. I liked it and would recommend it to anyone who likes sad books but can get through a lot of other incidents along the way.
