***. I liked the book Shabanu by Suzanne staples. I thought that it was very good at showing emotions that a 16 year old would have into the mind of a younger person. This is about a girl named Shabanu. She lives out on the desert and is loves raising her camels. Her favorite camel, Guluband, can dance and move to any beat that Shabanu gives him. When he gets sold to a wealthy man, that starts the sadness and emptiness in Shabanu's life. Where Shabanu lives, most girls her age are getting ready to be married and a girl the same age as her sister, 14-16, would be almost married. Her sister is about to get married and puts the thought of marriage into Shabanu's head so that she is thinking about getting married to the man that was set up for her by her parents and his parents. When a terrible accident happens it breaks Shabanu out of her Childhood so that she may never go back. I really liked this book because I thought that it did a good job at showing you all of the things that we have and all of the things that they didn't and how they were thankful just when it would rain so that they would have water. I also thought that this was a good way to learn more about her culture without reading a really long and boring book. I think that if you enjoy any of what I just said then you should read this book.

I really liked the book “Shabanu – Daughter of the Wind” by Suzanne Fisher Staples. The author describes really good how life in the Cholistan Desert of Pakistan is. It is unbelievable, which injustice Shabanu has to experience in her life because Nazir ruins her sister’s wedding. Shabanu finds a way to live through all of this. Due to the things her aunt told her, she is able to keep her good memories deep in her heart. If you are interested in learning something about other cultures, but you don’t want to read a boring history book, you should read “Shabanu”. This book combines a packing story with the way of live in Pakistan.

This book was very different. When you first start to read it, it’s very hard to get into. The story doesn’t seem to make since until later on. Once there was more action, I totally loved this book. The theme and story line are very different. It was interesting to see how Shabanu felt about everything that was going on. In this book, Shabanu the main character, is the youngest of her family. In her culture, her family arranges the man that she is going to marry. Her sister’s wedding is on the way, but something terrible happens and everything is changed. Shabanu doesn’t want to marry the man that her family has picked for her. Her aunt tells her that she can stay with her, but Shabanu will have to sneak out away from her father. Read to see what decision she makes. It will shock you.
