I thought that the book A Long Way Gone was a great story. I liked it a lot because it’s a story about a boy a couple years younger. This boy Ishmael is forced out of his town of Mattru Jong because of the rebel army taking over. He goes on this journey to find his friends and family, while trying to stay alive. This book is exciting because Ishmael becomes a boy soldier doing drugs and killing many people. This book is a pretty easy read. There are bunch of violence in it. I liked the story because it keeps you wanting to read more and find out what happens. This book is for sure one of my favorites.

****I thought that the story A Long Way Gone was a really good book! This story was about a boy named Ishmael. He is a few years younger than kids my age. He is forced to escape from his town of Mattru Jong to prevent being killed or captured by the Rebel Army. He does whatever he can to stay alive through his journey. There is a lot of violence once he is basically brainwashed into being a boy soldier. I didn’t care for the ending too much but its super good. It keeps you in tune with the book and leaves you wanting to read what happens next. I think it’s also a good book because it’s about a teenager and kids my age can read that and think of what the character is going through and seeing his struggle, and relate it to our lives.

*** A Long Way Gone was not a bad book. It is about a boy named Ishmael who is about 13 years old. He is forced from his home and loses just about everything! All he has left is the clothes on his back and some cassette tapes that come in pretty handy. Ill let you figure out how. He tries to sneak back into his city and get some money that he has saved up to buy food. He does everything that he can to stay a live living in trees living on his own for months until he is forced into being a solder. Once he is a solder he never wants to go back fighting about everything. This book has a lot of drugs and violence in it but yet it is pretty good. I would recommend it to a friend for them to read.

**** “A Long Way Gone” really made to you look at life from a different point of view, at those who are less fortunate and live in a country where you have to struggle each day just to stay alive. Ishmael is a young boy that is swept up in a war and is separated from everything and everyone he knows and loves. He wanders aimlessly with different groups of boys before finally being forced to become a soldier. Something that had seemed an impossible task before, killing innocent people, became an everyday occurrence after endless brainwashing and the constant presence of drugs. His whole life, along with countless other boy soldiers, revolved around killing, watching war movies, and using various kinds of drugs. When Ishmael finally thinks he’s gotten away from the war, it comes back to haunt him and he has to do everything he can to get away.

I’m not really sure what to think of the book A Long Way Gone. It’s about a boy named Ishmael who loses his whole family in the war that took place in Sierra Leone. Him and a bunch of friends end up traveling from village to village barely escaping death from the rebels each time. A soldier on the opposite side of the rebels takes the young men in and teaches them to fight. They are just boys and are robbed of their childhood. The horror they see will haunt them for the rest of their life. They end up doing horrible things to people and getting hooked on drugs. It was good but at the same time it wasn’t. It was extremely crazy to know that this is a true story and all these things really happened and very sad at the same time. You want to keep reading it but it’s not like one of those books that grab your attention and you can’t put down.

**** The book A long way gone was a very good book. It was about a 13 year old kid named Ishmael from Mattru Jong because of the war. They try to leave the country fleeing from the rebels. As they continued, they ran into a village that has started their own army to rebel against the rebels. Ishmael and all his friends are forced to join the soldiers in fighting against the rebels. During this part I liked how well the author went into detail with the daily lives of the soldiers. Also, I liked how it showed Ishmael’s life from the beginning all the way to the end and how much he changed. I also liked the book because there was a lot of violence and the author went into a lot of detail. Once you start this book it will be hard to put it down.

****I think that this is a good book. I like how the author told the story very clear and you can easily understand him. He did a good job by naming the characters and describing them so that the reader can get a better understanding of the culture and what they do. I also think that if he didn’t put the translation of some of the words at the bottom, I would have no clue what the word meant. This book is a very good book and you can really get into it.

**** I would give the book A Long Way Gone four stars. I liked it because it was a lot like the book what is the what. It’s about a boy that loses his family in the war. He has to survive on his own. He runs into a group of other boys that are walking to a place that they think is save. Then he gets picked up and is forced to fight for the army, killing the rebels. He becomes addicted to drugs and fighting.

*** I would give A Long Way Gone 3 stars because it was a good story but it got pretty boring at some points in the book. It’s about a teenage boy whose village got taken over by the rebels of the country. His friends and him all escaped and had to learn how to survive in the jungles by themselves. The boy is influenced by rap music and drugs. They help him get through life. He became a soldier for a village that he was living at and he learned how to be a man. It was a pretty good book.

I thought that A Long Way Gone was a great book about a young boy named Ishmael who has to overcome many obstacles. He is forced to arm himself and go out looking for his family and friends because of the rebel army taking over. I enjoyed this book because it keeps you on edge with all of the killing, he’s always carrying an AK-47 around so you never know what’s going to happen. One thing I have against this book is how often it goes from present to past and sometimes you get lost not knowing if he’s talking about the past or the present. Overall I would give it 8 out of 10 and recommend it to anyone.

He is forced to leave his home town because of the war and while he is fleeing he runs into a group who rebeling against the rebels. He is basically forced to fight with them. I like how the author went into detail of the daily life of him and his friends. Another reason why I like this book is because you see Ishmeals life before he gets affected by the war and after the war, you see how much hes changed and how much hes been through. I also like this book because it has a lot of violence. The author did a great job of going into detail of the battle scenes and taking over villages and his use of drugs.
