****Sold by Patricia McCormick
Sold is an amazing story. A young girl is taken from her home, because her family needs money. She is told that she will be working as a maid in the city, but as the story goes on everything starts to be questioned. Is she really going to be a maid? Why is the city nothing like she was told? Will she ever be able to get back to her family? Those are some of the questions you may have while reading. Read this book to read what really happens to her, and how she will get back home!

**** The book Sold by Patricia McCormick is a fantastic story about a girl named Lakshmi. She is going to the city to become a maid, so she is told, until she arrives at a place where she is to do unfamiliar work. This work is not what she wants to do it's what she has to do, if she ever wants to go home and see her family again. Sold is a great book about betrayal and hope. Betrayal from the city people who were suppose to help her become a maid to bring her family money. Hope to be able to take away what has already happen at the Happiness House.

*** Sold. Sold is an interesting book about the illegal prostitution of underage girls. Lakshimi is a 13 year old girl who was sold into the illegal prostitution and the story is about the struggles she has to overcome. The author does an excellent job of developing the characters which makes them easy to relate to. While these girls are being sexually abused, they find themselves in a dishonorable situation that they can’t seem to escape. The only critique I would give is the book ends rather abrupt and leaves you feeling like there should be more to the story.

****I thought the book Sold was really good. It’s about this 13 year old girl who lives in a small village and her family is poor there has not been rain for 60 days so their crops don’t grow . She wants to go to the city so she can work for more money. She thinks that in the city every one is rich and that the roofs are made out of tin. When she gets to the city it’s not as she tough it would be like. I liked this book because the charters were good and a lot of things happened at once so I never got bored reading it. Each charter had there own personality. I thought it was interesting that some of the girls at the happiness house had their own techniques and way to survive through the prostitution.

****I thought the book Sold was a really good book. It's about a 13 year old girl who lives in a small village with ther family. The girls name is Lakshmi. She lives an ordinary life in Nepal, going to school and thinking about the boy shes going to marry. She has no idea about the world beyond her village shack. Then as the story goes on her gambling addicted stepfather sells her into prostitution in India. She refused to be with men, than she is beaten and starved until she gives in. Once these things started happening to her it was very hard to stop reading it. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys reading.

**** “Sold” really opens your eyes to a kind of life that actually goes on, where young girls are sold by their families into prostitution houses. This is a story of one of those girls, Lakshmi, and her journey from the home and loving mother she left, to a nightmare that went against all that she believed in. She tries to fight back at first, but after being drugged and starved, she’s broken down until sleeping with unknown men is a part of her daily life. She calculates with each customer how much closer she is from being freed from this life, an escape that feels like it will never be reached …

*** Sold is a really interesting book about a 13 year old girl who has to go and help her parents get money. Her step father sent her into the big city to get a job. Lakshimia meets a town girl who says she will become a maid but does she really become a maid. If you’re a person who really likes interesting books about what is going to happen next this is a book for you. If you also like to be thinking of what’s going to happened next this book is all for you.

**** This was a great book. It’s about this girl who tells about her family and history that they went through. Her name is Marianne Satrapi. She is also the author. It talks about her experiences growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It’s about her life from the ages 6 to 14. It tells about the laws and things they fought for. I liked this book a lot.

****Sold is a really good book. It keep me wanting to read more. It was about a 13 year old girl, Lakshmi, who wants to help her family out by working as a maid in the city. But Lakshmi goes to a happiness house runned by a fat women named Mumtaz. Lakshmi has to work off her debt to Mumtaz by sleeping with so many men. I thought this book was really sad when I read that this illegal prostitution of underage girls was really happening in India.

*** Sold is about 13 year old Lakshmi who lives in Nepal but then gets sent to the city where she thinks that she is going to be working as a maid and earning money to help her family. Lakshmi finds out in the worst way that she has been sold into prostitution. She is told that her earnings will go toward her family and that once her debt is paid off she can leave and go home. Some questions rise as she’s there; is this all true? Will she ever get home? This book was pretty good overall, but the ending made me think that there should have been more.

****Sold is a book about a 13 year old girl named Lakshmi, who lives in the country and gets sold into prostitution by her stepfather. At first she has no idea what is going on, and then she arrives to the Happiness House and soon finds out why she is there. Lakshmi has no idea how long it will take for her to payback Mumtaz, the girl she was sold to, but she does her job daily until she can eventually head back home. Sold is a good book if you need a fast read, but its powerful at the same time.

**** Sold was a very good and quick read. I really enjoyed the fact that it took me like two days to read. It’s about a girl whose stepfather gambles all their money away, and she thinks she is being sold to be a maid in the city. Well, she is not. She is sold into a prostitution house and forced to sleep with men to pay off her dept to Mumaz. Will she be able to pay her debt and finally return to Nepal? Or will she be stuck there until she is no use to Mumaz and be thrown out on the street? She does not know who to trust, because she is in a whole new world where she knows no one. So will people really help her, or just keep using and hurting her? Read it and find out.

**** The book sold is one of the best books I have read. It was fast to read and it was interesting. You are able to really get into it and then once you do it’s really hard to put down. Imagine being a young child about 13 years old and being sent away from home. She thinks that she is going some place nice and she is happy because she is helping her family, but it turns out to be completely different than she was expecting. I recommend this book to anyone. It is really good.

I think it was bad when she hade to do work for something she never thought she would do. A thing that I didn’t like was the ending part I think it should of bean more to it then how it ended. I really recommend this book, because is really interesting to learned of what is happening in India’s culture.

Sold by Patricia McCormick was an amazing book. I would recommend this book to anybody, it took me awhile to get into the book, but then I didn't put it down. It's a book about a 13 year old girl whose father sells her into Prostituion, or sex trafficking. Lakshmi refused at first until she was ruffied, and she later thought that she could finally pay off "her owner" later realizing she couldn't. The end took me by suprise, and it kept me wanting more.

**** I liked Sold a lot. You hear stories about stuff like that all the time but it really put it into perspective when you hear the story from someone that was there. The story itself wasn’t true but a lot of the things that happened in it were. This book was really fast to read but very good. I hate that she though the whole time that she was going to clean for money and be able to help her family. Instead her stepfather sold her to someone far away that was going to make her do things she never thought she would have to do. I would recommend this book to anyone.

****Sold was an excellent book about a 13 year old girl named Lakshmi from Nepal. Her family is poor and she has always dreamed about her family getting a tin roof; which the rich families have. She thinks she is going away to work for her family by doing maid work where her family would get rufees for and they can buy a tin roof. What she doesn’t know is that her stepfather is actually selling her into prostitution and it changes her life completely. She lives through horrible things and she can’t escape, so she starts to give up. Lakshmi is told never to speak to Americans because they will humiliate her in the streets…will she take the chance?

I thought that the book Sold was a good book. It was about a young girl who was only 13 and she was sold into prostitution by her stepfather. She didn’t realize what was going on. She thought that she was going to work in the city and be able to earn money for her family. Her family has always wanted a tin roof. When she gets to the town that the building was at, she was put into this room and didn’t understand why. I would recommend this book to anyone, because I think that the main character is really strong. She has a good head on her shoulders and it’s interesting how she battles through being at a prostitution building. Does she get out or what happens to her?

**** Sold is about a thirteen-year-old girl named Lakshmi. She lives in Nepal with her family and her pet goat. She is put into prostitution when a monsoon ruins her family’s crop. She is to help pay off the debt. I thought the book was really good because it was powerful but yet still kept you wondering what would happen next. It is one of those books that are very hard to put down. This is one of my favorite books I have read this year. I would recommend this book to any one because it isn’t boring. You won’t be disappointed if you read it because Lakshmi finds goodness in this really unfortunate situation. It is kind of like a roller coaster ride of emotion.

When she tells her mom that she wants to go, she doesn’t approve of her wanting to leave the village. At the festival her dad gets introduced to a woman that wants to take her into the city. She goes with the lady to the city and has to be taken over the border. When she gets to where she will be working it is an unpleasant place. To find out where she will be working and what she has to do read the book. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Sold was a really good book. It’s about a 13 year old girl who gets taken away from her home, because her family needs money. Lakshmi is told that she is being sold to work as a maid in the city. Then she ends arriving at a place where young girls are taken to be sold into prostitution. She would never be able to leave unless she did what she is told. I believe sold is a really good book. I highly suggest reading it.

*** Sold is a great book. It is about this young, 13 year old girl who is tricked into being a prostitute. Her stepfather sent her away, saying she was going to the city to make money for her family. Her "boss" in reality doesn't send them money. This young girl has to be with men for basically no reason. I thought this was a great book. I think that the end was good and unexpected.

Sold was a flame book and very interesring but very cruel to make thirteen year old girls become prositiutes but for the most part you will not be able to put the book down. So I encourage you to read this cool and interesting because the way it was writen and the way the story was told.

I really liked this book. It was short and fast reading but it was interesting and kept me wanting to read more. It’s about a 13 year old girl named Lakshimi who is from Nepal. Her family is poor so she is sold into illegal prostitution to pay off her family’s debts. It was a really sad book. This illegal prostitution of young girls is happening in India today. I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone.

“Sold” was my favorite book so far in this unit. It is about a 13 year old girl from Nepal and is sold for money into prostitution. The whole book is about her struggle in the prostitution home she is forced to live in to pay off her debt to leave and go back home. The book really educates people about what happens to children in these countries and how terrible it is and how their lives are. The thing I liked in this book was that it kept you guessing and you want to know what will happen next. It’s sad but you just want to keep reading to know if she will make it though it all. What I didn’t like about this book was the big names and the different languages that were in there. It was sometimes hard to follow and remember who was who. I would very much recommend this book to anyone, it is a book everyone should read and know about I think.

*** In the story sold, the main character Lakshmi goes through many hardships. Her father drinks and gambles all their money away so she is sent to the city to become a maid. Unfortunately she and her family were lied to; she ends up far away in another city and sold into prostitution. She struggles to cope with and survive through her time in the city, while constantly looking for an escape. This is a very graphic and sad story but at the same time filled with hope. I recommend this to people who enjoy tales of struggle and strife. But personally I didn’t find it that interesting.

**** Sold is a very good book. It is about a girl from Nepal gets sold into prostitution in India. It reminds alot of Slumdog Millionaire. I don't like the topic because it is really depressing but it does go on in the world. The main character talks about her relationships with the other girls and the head lady. It does get a little too detailed and vulgar in some parts. Its a dramatic book that I would reccomend this book to anyone who wants to know what happens in the world.

*** I thought this was a good book. Laksmi came from a very poor family living in the mountains. Her step dad gambles away any money they do have. So at the age of thirteen Laksmi’s step dad sells her into prostitution. When she thinks that she is going to the city to be a maid. Laksmi goes to a place called the Happiness House, which doesn’t actually lives up to it name. Laksmi has to sleep with as many men as possible to pay off her debt to the head lady Mamtaz, but later she finds out that it nearly impossible to see her family ever again.

**** Sold by Patricia McCormick. Sold is a really good book. It’s about a girl named Lakshmi, a 13 year old, who lives in Nepal. She lives with her mom and step dad until she is sent away to be a maid. Shortly after she leaves home she finds out she isn’t going to be a maid, but she is really going to be prostitute. At first she protests it, but after some time she decides that if she wants to leave the “happiness house” she will have to do as Mumtaz says to pay off her debt.

****Sold is a very good, but sad book about a 13 year old girl who is sold to a family, where she believes she will be working as a maid. As you go through this book you read of the struggles and harsh realities of things that still go on today. I would recommend this book to anyone. It was a good story and was a very fast read.

****I really enjoyed reading the book Sold because it was attention-grabbing and took only two days to read. It is about a teenage girl who is sold into prostitution by her step-father. The rest of the book is her struggles while she is in the prostitution house, or “Happiness House”; trying to save up enough money to pay off her debt and go home. It’s crazy to think that some of this stuff actually is happening in other countries. This story is pretty explicit but it makes you want to keep reading to uncover if she will survive or not. I would suggest this book to anybody who likes learning about different cultures.

***** Sold was a very good book because a girl named Lakshmi she was 13 years old. Her family was very poor, her dad sells her into prostitution, lakshmi thought that she was going to be working on a house. Lakshmi cared about school and the most important thing the boy that she was going to be married with. Lakshmi didn’t want to sell her sell her self like that. Also the other girls told her that if she talks to the Americans she was going to be naked in the streets and that people would make fun of her. I really recommend this book to everyone who like to read book about the Indian culture, if I enjoy reading this book I bet you will to.

****Sold was a very intense, but great book. It’s about a young girl named Lakshmi who believes she is going out to work as a maid for her family, but ends up being sold into prostitution. The only way for her to get out is to earn back everything she owes, which she wonders if that will ever happen. I really enjoyed reading this book, and would recommend it for anyone. It was a fast read, and was hard to put down.
