I really did not like “Autobiography of My Dead Brother” by Walter Dean Myers. There were parts of it liked and some others that I would have changed if I were the author. The setting was good, which takes place in a ghetto, and he had a good story to go along with it. I also liked how the story had a few sketches to go along with it to help put pictures of what the characters look like. However, I did not like he included the “Counts” in this book. I didn’t really get what their purpose was because all they really did was hang out, where as the enemy gang ,Diablos, are into crime and violence, and it doesn’t talk much about their stories. Another thing I did not like about this book was the random comic strips, “Spodi Roti, and Wise.” I did not really understand any of their meanings. I would probably not recommend this to a friend unless they are looking for really easy-reading material.

The Autobiography of My Dead Brother is a graphic novel full of amazing illustrations and eye-opening skits by the author. The story takes place in the ghetto, where the main character encounters abusive parents, drive-bys, and gangs wars. Through-out the book he tries to cope with all of this through his artwork. Jesse watches as his friends change for better and for worse. As he desperately holds on to a world that is moving rapidly without him, he struggles to stay out of trouble and stay in his family’s good-graces. I enjoyed this book very much, but it is a fairly fast read and not very difficult. I recommend this book for people who enjoy struggles.

I thought this was a really good book because it showed how people would have talked from were they lived. Also I liked how the book had drawings as pictures. I would definitely recommend this book to another person. If you like books about gangs, drugs and violence then this is the book for you.
