***. The book, speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, was a very good book. This book is about a girl that went to a party during the summer, and something happened to her that changed how other people viewed her, and even how she viewed herself. This year is her freshman year of high school and she is already nervous on first impressions. She has the art teacher, Mr. Freeman, who helps her, some friends that fade and some remade, and a bully that follows her, torturing her with his presence. This book is about how a girl finds herself, and shows that she is not afraid to be herself and let people know what really happened that night at the party. I think that this book has you wondering and makes you want to keep reading to figure out what she is going to do. I really enjoyed this book and it is a fast read so I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read.

***Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, has the same story line as the book Just Listen. This book is also about a girl that gets into trouble at a party and because of this looses friends, but makes new friends. Melinda the main character becomes an outcast because after the trouble at the party something happens that turns her friends against her. Friends don't always wait to hear both sides of a story, they have their own idea and don't believe anything else. Melinda finds ways to pull herself through her problems with some help from teachers, new friends, and her father even though they don't realize they are helping her. I highly recommend this book.

****This was a great book. It was written differently from many books I read, but it was still very good. It was very humorous in some instances and depicted the high school experiences very well. Watching Melinda go through everything, like the tragedy at the party, losing her best friend, making new friends, and finally getting the courage to speak up, makes this book worth reading. I would recommend it to anyone.

**** I loved the book Speak! In the beginning I was a little lost as to what was going on, but as I kept reading I started to understand what this young girl was talking about. You never understand why she never talks until the end. She is very help back and she really keeps to herself. She feels like an outcast, because she doesn’t have any friends. This would be an awesome book to read, because it shows you a lot that you need to open up and not just keep to yourself. It’s better to talk to someone about how you are feeling rather than keeping it inside.
