A Thousand Splendid Suns is one of my favorite books. It is about two women, Mariam and Laila who live in Afghanistan. They are both forced to marry the same man, Rasheed. He is an abusive husband and wants the women only to bear him a son. The two women go through their life struggles through the onslaught of the Taliban and the Iraq war. One of the women's decisions changes the course of both of their lives and the ending really surprised me. I really liked how the book shows two different perspectives, Mariam and Laila. I thought it was a little boring throughout the beginning and relatively sad, but it got a lot better. I recommend this book to anyone and I don’t think it could disappoint them.

*** This story is about tow women who are constantly forced to live lives set up for them. They are lied to, beaten, starved, raped, had their families killed, and threatened on a constant basis. The story starts out telling you about the first woman Mariam, who was forced to live with her poor mother who lost everything because of her cruel and selfish husband. This book takes some patience to get through but it is well worth the time. The second girl you are told about is Laila she lived a slightly better life than Marian but it was filled with war. What they have in common is they are both married at one point to a horrible old man named Rasheed it takes everything they have to survive. I recommend this book to people who enjoy tales of struggle. It’s a lot like the story Ann Frank.
